Warhammer Online Thread, or Let's Play Open Beta Together

The open beta for WAR begins on the 7th. I know that many of you are interested in trying out the game, and I might spend some time on it myself before WotLK is released.

So, for both the beta and possibly for retail, let's plan to play it together! Nothing like hitting a new game with a good group of warm bodies... With a vent server, to boot.

With respect to the specifics, I'm undecided on Order vs Destruction myself. I will probably experiment a little before I feel comfortable making the decision. How is everyone else leaning? I think Altdorf is a better city than Inevitable, but that's about it.

The classes I'm most interested in are, in no particular order:

-High Elf Swordmaster.
-Chaos Zealot.
-Dark Elf Disciple of Khaine.
-Empire Bright Wizard.
-High Elf Archmage.

I desire the ability to kill things with magic - especially with crowd control and root-like abilities. And not die. Or maybe heal myself if I do die. (Removing the annoying debuff after you ressurect will be a godsend.) So I'm probably leaning toward a High Elf Archmage. Then again, I'll probably play whatever side Ag does, as long as it can go pewpewpew.

/will be playing the open Beta as well.

EDIT: I think I've fallen in love with the Witchhunter. Definitely trying that out first.

I want to play either a Dwarf Engineer or a Goblin Shaman. I would really like to play with anyone else planning to use their beta numbers, as I feel WaR is going to be a game focusing on group encounters. Maybe Ag can be a tank, and I can heal, and-

You have to get a beta key, which requires you pre-ordering the game/getting lucky once you pre-order it.

I don't think I'll ever pre-order an MMO again after Vanguard, sadly.

I have to say, regardless of my reservations, I'm getting pretty excited about WAR. My character choices will probably be heavily influenced by DAoC, which seems balanced enough being that from what I've seen on YouTube, WAR is DAoC with some regenerative surgery (this is a good thing).

Order-

Shadow Warrior- Looks like a Scout to me... I love ranged physical dps with no pet. And bless Mythic for giving ranged dps stealth in all their endeavors. <3

Bright Wizard- They look broken. Broken in a totally OP and fun way.

Runepriest- A healer in a Runemasters body. I could REALLY enjoy this class.

Destruction-

Shaman- Mythic loves Shaman, and so do I.*

*Although there is only one class I have a real interest in for Destruction, I'm no less open to allying with the faction.

From what Dan told me, actual enthusiasts of the lore will be more prone to play Order, which to me suggests that it might also harbor more mature players. Also, WoW proves that when it comes to a PvP focus, the younger and immature players choose things that resemble "The Horde." Also, most things relating to Greenskins are ridiculous. So perhaps I am leaning towards Order after all.

I am -the- WAR nerd, and I still think Dark Eldar/Orks/Necrons are the most baddest in the WAR universe. No doubt the idea of commisars killing thousands of human meatshield-esque infantry is not badass-it is!-it's just that Chaos just has this...well, kind of dark, bloody gleam to everything Order has.

-Elves? Meh. I will, but I refuse to play a female-only class on the principle that my girlfriend would lose faith in me.

So we could just do the trio of Greenskins? :3

After downloading continuously since 4AM ST last night, I'm at 91%. So I guess I'll finish it up tonight and play by Monday. Oh well.

Alright, contrary to what I said yesterday...

I'm on the Tyrion server.

Order on the Tyrion server. Destruction TBA.

I rolled a Dwarf Ironbreaker on Blood Keep. Destruction have higher populations on literally every server so far. I'll go ahead and roll a Battle Priest on Tyrion sometime soon. This game rocks though. :3

Love the gameplay of the Warrior-Priest.

Not sure if WAR can compete with WotLK or not, but the core gameplay is definitely more compelling than vanilla WoW and probably TBC. I've already taken part in a few Public Quests - these are probably my favorite "innovative" feature WAR adds to the genre.

It amuses me , though, that anyone could love WAR to bits and despise WoW. There are too many similarities for that to be rational.

WAR hand-holds your way through PvE a lot more than WoW does, too, still split on if that's a good thing or not. Definitely makes Beta go faster - I was nearly level 6 after one brief play session, and did a lot of screwing around too.

Edit 2: Warrior-Priests are really overpowered at low levels, and leveling via PvP for the win.
